New Years Eve in Port Douglas is a fun and enjoyable event! Just remember to pre book a table in your favourite restaurant. All venues near the park with views of the Fireworks are popular and will book out on the evening. Best recommended views are from Clements French Restaurants, Bistro 3, Courthouse Hotel, 2 Fish, Harrissons and Salsa Bar as well as Zeus. The restaurants offer a special set menue for the event. Fireworks are at 9pm and Midnight. The fireworks will be set off from Anzac Park opposite The Court House Hotel in Wharf Street thanks to the Douglas business community backing the organisers with sufficient sponsorship funds to be able to present the two displays.

Enjoy and party safe!

The Pink Flamingo Resort will host a small party for their inhouse guests with a cold buffet, outdoor movie and midnight countdown.

North Queensland tourism operators have mounted a major marketing campaign in a bid to lure holidaymakers from as far afield as the White House to boost the state’s flagging industry.

Port Douglas Daintree Tourism has invited US President Barack Obama to stay in the resort town when he journeys Down Under next year.

The tourism board has confirmed it has been in talks with the White House to entice Mr Obama and his family to the premier holiday destination, north of Cairns.

Should the Obamas accept the invitation, they will be the second presidential family to holiday in Port Douglas after former President Bill Clinton stayed in 2002.

It has also played host to several celebrities, including Kylie Minogue and Matthew McConaughey, who shot a film there.

Port Douglas Daintree Tourism CEO Doug Ryan invited the then US president-elect to visit more than a year ago.

Port Douglas Beach, commonly referred to as “Four Mile Beach” is located about an hour’s drive north of Cairns in Queensland, Australia.

The town of Port Douglas parallels the beach with its main center located a short walk from the northern end of the beach.

Port Douglas beach is renowned for its beauty, size, impressive surroundings and lack of crowds.

You won’t find surf or crashing waves on this beach- it’s sheltered by the presence of the Great Barrier Reef situated off the coast of north Queensland.

Average water temperature is 25 degrees Celcius (77 degrees Fahrenheit). One catch is the presence of marine “Stingers” (jellyfish) in the water during “Stinger Season” (October to May typically).

Marine Stingers are potentially deadly and should be taken quite seriously with no swimming while they’re active. Snorkelling and diving is still safe as these activities tend to occour some distance from the shore and typical habitat of stingers. Even so, many reef operators are now providing full-body “stinger suits” as an added precaution.

During Stinger Season a special net enclosure is also located at the northern end of Port Douglas beach to enable safe swimming.

Port Douglas beach can be a beautiful place to be and enjoy its changing faces throughout the day and seasons. One can literally walk for hours along the sandy shore and as the beach is fringed with tropical rainforest, it often feels like civilisation has been left behind.

With a backdrop of green, forested mountains and often dramatic clouds, Port Douglas beach has been the subject of many photos.
